Lately

How does one find time to do all the Christmas things and keep on top of blogging? Yeesh!

On December 30 we had the De Jong Family Christmas. My parents were supposed to host it at their house, but Mom came down with a terrible cold, so we offered/she asked us to host the family instead. We were already mentally set up to host 25 people because of Dom's birthday party, so no problem! We had already taken down our Christmas tree and everything, so we just pulled out a couple strands of lights to make things look a little more festive.

Embarrassing candid shot of Jeff and I comparing food vs. real baby.

Rachel prepared some games for us to play with everyone. This one you wear oven mitts and try to unwrap the many-layered present. While you're struggling to unwrap, the person ahead of you is rolling dice trying to roll doubles. Once they roll doubles it passes to them and the next person gets rolling. Whoever gets to the "prize" first, wins the game and got a gift basket! In this case the inner inner inner box had a confetti surprise and a little stuffed puppy. Adam got there and he won a gift basket! So fun.

We also played a game called salad bowl. Everyone writes down 3 things on separate little pieces of paper and puts them in a bowl. It can be anything. A saying, a word, something completely random... Examples: May the Force Be With You; Feliz Navidad, Uncle Reynold's Speedo, Peanut Butter Between my Toes Again, etc... ANYTHING!
You're split into two teams, and go around the circle alternating teams to try to guess the saying in different ways over 3 rounds.

Round 1: 1 minute Taboo style. Use any words except the ones on the sheet to get the team to guess the totally random thing. Count up how many you got and add it to your score. When your minute is up, pass the bowl to the next team for their turn. Continue until the bowl is empty, and return all slips to the bowl.

Round 2: 30 seconds Charades style. Using NO words or sound effects, have your team guess the saying. Again, once the bowl is empty, put all slips back in and continue to round 3.

Round 3: 30 seconds with 1 word. You can only say ONE word (that obviously isn't on the sheet) to have your team guess what's written down. If you pause to think, and say, "Um..." that counts! Discard the sheet back into the bowl and grab a different one.

At the end of the game, add up the scores for the two teams to determine your winner! So fun!! Great game for a big group.

New Years Eve, David and I didn't have any real plans because well... we're parents now! Haha. We had my parents over for dinner, and then just laid low for the evening. David watched Star Wars while I worked on my Sherlock Holmes puzzle he got for me years ago!
You read the story booklet and then build the puzzle (with no picture guide) to solve the mystery! So hard!

Just try to drag me away once I get going on a puzzle! I am a project-finisher. I hate leaving things half-done.

New Years Day we got a text from Brent asking if we'd like to go to Tynehead with him and the three boys. We didn't have any plans and had to walk dog anyway, so sure! Why not!

We (finally) installed our second car seat into David's car for childcare drop-offs. If you know David's car, you know it's a 2-door hatchback Acura RSX... NOT ideal for a rear-facing car seat... It had to go behind passenger seat which means every time he needs to load Dom in, he has to move the driver's seat. It's really not a great set-up, but we won't need it every day, so it'll work I guess...

David fashioned the car seat box into a little play house. I thought it was a waste of time and energy, but Dom has spent the last few days crawling in and out and playing in their all on his own! Cracks me up! So cute!

Where's the baby?!

I finally finished my puzzle! Yay! The day after Dom's birthday we switched him down to 1 nap instead of 2. He's been pretty good at napping still, so that's amazing! I can actually get things done during nap time! If he does happen to take a crap nap, it's early bedtime and he sleeps til 7am! Last night he slept 13 hours straight!! I only woke up because I had an alarm set...
