Too Busy to Blog! (Field Trip/Birthday Party/Drag Show/Agassiz!)

Ahh almost every day the last week I was like, "Oh ya, I'll write the a blog today about the last few days!" Alas... every day was filled up from waking to sleeping.

I left off with Jesse updating the flooring in our entry way! Tuesday morning I got up EARLY and met Ashleigh at SpinHouse in Langley for their 5:45am morning spin. It was just my second time doing spin, and it was early, but boyyyy did it feel good. I wish I could remember how good it feels to exercise once it's done... It would make it a lot easier to get up and do it.

They read together before bed every night <3

Before

After!

Wednesday I was at work in the morning and finally went to get my COVID booster while I was there. We spent the afternoon outside (that's a theme this week... Lots of outside time), and then watched Survivor at Jesse & Kirsten's in the evening.

Hit the dollar store (new Dollarama next to Cactus in Langley!) and picked up some things for Eva's party. Naturally walked out with a kids magnifying glass too...

Thursday is usually a nice "get stuff done" day for me, but instead of regular preschool, the kids had a field trip. I went with them and their class to A Rocha in South Langley. Thankfully it didn't rain, but it was chilly. We got a tour of the property, learned about seeds/pollen/growing vegetables, dug in dirt and played with worms, and did a forest walk.

Learning about a plant's life cycle.

Dom giving a correct answer :)

We went around and ate kale and spinach fresh from the gardens

Emilia was into trying all the foods. Dom, not so much.

Putting them to work, weeding the "kids' garden"

Poking for worms

I came home and picked up Eva, and took all 3 kids to Costco. Then we were having Larry & Shelley over for dinner, so I made these potato nachos. They were super yummy. I thinly sliced the potatoes and baked them so they were crunchy, and topped with taco meat, cheese, and homemade guacamole, salsa and lime crema. Delicious, but I don't know if they were worth the amount of extra work making the potatoes myself. I might just rather eat regular nachos with those toppings haha. Especially since Dom & Emilia were not interested.

Friday the kids helped me do some prep for Eva's birthday party the next day! They helped me scrub out our bigger water table and clean the toys. I made a poster of Eva's monthly pictures for her party too. We pretty much just spent the entire day outside as it was so beautiful!

This work takes lots of focus

Someone convince this girl to let me do something with her hair!!! She hates when I brush it or put it up. She's always just walking around like the Grudge.

Even Sherly came out to join us for a while :)

Found this note some kid in the complex had written and it made me chuckle.

Saturday came around and we all went out to soccer again. We have been so lucky! We've had soccer 4? 5? times and so far there hasn't been any rain. Very pleasant way to spend an hour on Saturday morning. Aunty Ashleigh and Phoebe came too, so we went a little early to get some park playtime in.

A volunteer from Scott's work has chickens and they gave Scott & Ash a bunch of eggs. So many, that they then passed

Dave and Emilia walking with Phoebe, who confidently marched around the whole place haha.

We came home and I quickly iced the cake/cupcakes for Eva's party that day. I was somehow inspired to try to make it look like a bear, and it actually turned out pretty cute. I don't do baking. I don't do pretty cupcakes haha. Not my priority!

After I finished that, Emilia, Eva and I took Sherlock to Tynehead and met up with some others for a sunny walk! Soooo gorgeous out. Dave and Dom took a boys trip to Home Depot and to fill up our growler at Trading Post :)

This girl did the whole paved loop! So proud of her

Came home and straight back to party prep mode! The party was over dinner time (any time between 4 and 7. Whatever worked for those coming), and I went simple. Hot dogs for dinner, Costco potato salad, kale salad, and asked a couple people to bring things like chips and paper plates, etc. It was BYOB and BYOC(chair) and we had an outdoor picnic party so I didn't even have to worry about the state of my house too much! Much more relaxing this way haha.
I find I have a hard time actually talking and connecting with anyone at a party like that - particularly one where I'm hosting, but I'm told everyone had a good time. There was a chilly breeze, so it was definitely colder than I was hoping for, but we brought out some blankets and everyone survived haha. The babies played in the water table, the big kids played hockey and who knows what else (I only got like one picture of them), and we got all 4 of the 2021 Gerber babies in the wagon at the same time haha. We were packed up and inside between 7 and 730, and I can confidently say Eva had fun and the party was a success haha.

Wren would have played here all day

Less than impressed at first haha

Caption that!

Sunday morning I took Dom to the Langley Events Centre to get his Kindergarten boosters! He did great. Very brave! It was just 2 shots, and I thought it was going to be 3, so he was pretty relieved.

Home for some more outside time with Wren & Kirsten. We also had dinner with them in the afternoon (ham, scallopped potatoes, roasted carrots and cheese buns. Now I'm drooling again).

That night was a highlight. Scott and Ashleigh had gotten her sister Rebecca tickets to a Drag Show at Farm Country Brewing for her 19th birthday. They invited me along and I'm so glad they did! I haven't had that much fun in a long time. I had no idea what to expect, but it was entertainment at its finest. There were 3 Drag Queens and 1 Drag King (I didn't even know that was a thing), and they did performances (mostly lip syncing/dancing, etc). We had some drinks and everyone was cheering and having tons of fun. You're encouraged to tip of course, and since you can't really throw loonies at them, you have to tip $5 minimum. That adds up quick haha. Glad I brought cash!
After the show we were supposed to just walk back to Scott & Ashleigh's, but someone (*cough. Ashleigh*) got distracted and dragged us into the Rendezvous bar across the street for a quick tequila shot and karaoke song haha. By this point the night got pretty fuzzy for all of us. However, I was home and safe in bed by 11:00.
By some miracle I was alive yesterday and pretty functional! Such a fun night, but definitely can't do that often. Whew... Still recovering!

Yesterday after a bit of a slow morning, we packed up and headed out to Agassiz to visit Gramma & Grandpa, and so Dave could take pictures of their trailer they're selling for them. We hardly see Dom & Emilia when we're there, and Eva had a decent afternoon nap, so it was a nice relaxing afternoon. Gramma and I took the big kids to the park for a bit and for a little walk around the neighbourhood, and then we stayed for dinner and headed back home around 6:30.

On the way home Eva was toast. She complained most of the way home, and from Abbotsford onwards would lose her ever loving mind if I wasn't making physical contact with her. Oh... I forgot to mention I was on my phone on Zoom for our Strata AGM for most of the drive home too haha. Had definitely forgotten about that meeting when we made our plan! So I'm reaching back from the passenger seat, over Emilia, and around Eva's rear-facing seat that sits behind the driver's seat. Definitely wasn't in a good position if we were to get into an accident, but I figured it was worth it because it kept her calm. As we got home I tried to pull my arm back but I could hardly move it. It was numb/asleep and I wasn't all that surprised. After a few minutes it hadn't gotten any better and I couldn't trust myself to hold Eva with my left arm. I tried reaching for a door knob and my arm just kind of smacked the wall and missed. Hmm... It's stil not better today, so I texted Aly. She figures I have a "Brachial Plexus Stretch Injury". Essentially reaching my arm back like that stretched/injured a nerve in my arm causing numbness, tingling and muscle weakness. Hopefully it will just resolve itself... Otherwise I'm seeing the Dr. for Eva's 12 month appointment/shots on Thursday so I'll mention it then. Sigh. Pretty inconvenient when I try to stir the kids oatmeal and my hand just shoots half of it onto the floor this morning lol.

I'm grateful that it doesn't hurt though. I shouldn't complain. It's inconvenient and uncomfortable, but not debilitating.

Anywho. The big kids are in preschool today and Eva is napping (cue an early-waking screech...) so I figured I'd finally set some time aside to document the week!
