Ah nuts. I dropped the ball last week on Thankful Thursday.
Well, it's been a bit, so here's our life lately...
Friday Feb 17 was a Pro-D Day for the kids, so Katrina invited Dom and a classmate over to play some hockey with the boys. Emilia went for a little bit as well as her first ever playdate without me. She was homesick, but stayed about an hour and by the end was sitting colouring with Audrey. Big first step for her!
Mom found some pictures of me in Oma D's albums and we can see some Eva in there <3
Last Saturday Dom had soccer. My parents offered to take the girls for the morning, so Dave and I had a special morning with just Dom. We both went to his soccer and then we took him to Tim Hortons to pick out a donut.
Emilia's been brushing my hair most nights and it's magical.
Saturday night Dave had Jeff & Scott over for the hockey game. I had some me time upstairs and went down after the game to hang out. We threw on Muse Live at Wembley circa 2007(?) and played some darts. Just like the good ole days in the Mansion.
Sunday morning I played bass at church for both services. I caught up with my old bus buddy from Middle and High School as he was there for his nephew's baptism. Total blast from the past!
After church and a quick nap, the Vanderrose family came over for a hockey-themed playdate! The boys all played inside for a while, and then most of them went outside to play some road hockey. We made up some pizzas for dinner and then watched Mighty Ducks in the theatre together with some drinks and popcorn. It was such a fun day! Eva loved "Mimi" and Eli.
It felt like a weird full circle moment. We watched Carter & Devin when they were like 9 months and 2 years old for a weekend, and used to spend tons of time with Amy and Brent through our whole journey trying to get pregnant with Dom and then when he was a baby. We were in a small group together back then. Then COVID happened and we haven't actually hung out. Now we got together and there were 6 kids between us and they're all so big and it was just a weird (nice) moment!
Emilia and Eli actually seemed to get along well too. Similarish energies I think. He's just a little sweetheart
Monday was Family Day. We had a slower morning at home. During nap time Dave took Dom & Emilia to a skating event our realtors hosted in Langley (which I don't have pictures of :( ). After nap we went for dinner at my parents' in the afternoon. Before dinner we popped in at Elim to visit Bobo Moma. It had been FAR too long. She was jolly and made no sense most of the time, but she loved seeing the kids. It was clear she was trying her best to "host" them, but couldn't quite get the words out. It was very sweet.
Wednesday was spin & work day. After work/school, I realized we had to go to Costco. The whole family packed up and went, and of course we were done right at dinner time. I grabbed some chicken strips, fries and a hot dog for the kids to chow down on before shit hit the fan. It worked out well, but Dave was starting to lose energy as he got sick Monday night with a fever/cough/cold, etc. (Covid negative).
Thursday I had a zoom meeting for work in the morning and squeezed some work hours in around Eva crawling all over me. After I picked up Emilia from school, Jeff asked if I wanted to go for a coffee. We met at Black Tiger Co. in Clayton. I've heard great things about that place and it did not disappoint! Delicious!!
Dave was feeling really worn down, so I took the girls to pick up Dom from school and then went to my parents' place. They watched Eva so I could take Dom to basketball in the evening. His skills are definitely developing! So far basketball is not a passion for him, so I'm curious if that will develop too.
Friday we were warned of an impending major snowstorm expected for Saturday. Soccer was cancelled, and we planned on being housebound most of the weekend. Well. The snow didn't actually start until 5pm on Saturday evening and then it really wasn't that bad. So that's kind of irrititating, but better safe than sorry! During the day on Saturday, Dave helped Dom work on his "Expert" project for school. The kids all have to take 3-5 minutes to present something they are an expert in. Dom chose hockey, so he and Dave went outside in the COLD to film Dom and Dave put together an adorrrrable video for Dom to show in class. Can't wait to share it!
I tried to walk the dog on Saturday after dinner because I just needed a physical break from being touched, but he REFUSED to walk. He does that sometimes. I came home, grabbed Dave and all the kids and we all went for a walk around the neighbourhood to the park before the snow. Sherlock walks like an angel when everyone is there.
Sunday morning we woke up to about 6 inches of snow which was already melting haha. The big kids went out there, but I wasn't ready so I brought some snow in to Eva. Eventually we decided to go outside with Jesse & Kirstin for a bit.
Church was cancelled and we got a text from Jeff and Marta that they were going to Grandview pool at 10 if we wanted to join. We were inside, out of snowsuits, fed snacks, packed for swimming and in the car within 20 minutes haha. The pool was so fun. We had a 1:1 ratio of adults to kids and it just worked really well (I thought anyway). The pool was very warm and has a great lazy river. The adults each went down the waterslide, and both the big kids got comfortable putting their faces in the water! Eva was a machine dunking herself, blowing bubbles, and having zero fear. So fun.
City of Surrey Recreation opened registrations last night at 9pm. We had all sorts of issues at that time, but this morning I managed to register Dom for ball hockey at Cloverdale Rec Centre starting in April. He is SO. so so excited. It will be RIGHT after school so it will be a bit of a rush to get there, but hopefully we can make it work. I'm also on a waitlist for a parent & tot ballet class for Eva. She'd love it, but I was SECONDS too late this morning on that one. The register link was there, but by the time I clicked it it was full :(.
Other than that, Dave and I have spent a lot of time watching Formula 1: Drive to Survive. We're almost done season 4 now. Season 5 is out, and the 2023 live season starts next weekend. We are ready! We just have to pick our teams or make a pool.
