Thankful Thursday - 289

Another busy week around here, but our evenings have been more free which gives me the chance to recharge.

This week I am thankful for...

1. Spring Break is over! Having the kids out that 8 hours a week makes such a huge difference for me. We had fun with them home, but I'm glad they're back to the usual routine now!

I couldn't find my oven mitts the other day... Now I know why. At least he's resourceful while playing goalie in his living room hockey game haha

2. Another birthday party! Phoebe turned 1 last week and we had her first birthday party on Sunday at the Yzermans. I crocheted her these sensory bowls with little balls. I found the pattern online and thought they'd be cute. I love them. Making Eva a set now too!

I'll have to get a better picture of what they actually are after I finish Eva's

Phoebe enjoyed the limelight. Danielle made a video of Phoebe's first year and now I want to do that for Eva too!

Surprise sunshine that day! D&E played on the Yzerman's playground. First time down the slide Emilia flew off onto her back and I caught it on video. #worthit

What?! A nice family photo?!!

Emilia asked me to put some makeup on her before the party. Well so did Dom, but I put a bit more on Emilia haha. Just some blush, a little bit of light eye shadow with darker along the lashline and some lip gloss. Boy did she feel fancy! She's been asking me to do it again every day since haha.

3. Impromptu trip to the library. Ash asked if we wanted to meet up at the library on Monday so we did that with the kids, and then went to the playground afterwards where everyone got nice and filthy.

4. Brunch with the girls. While at the park, we planned a playdate with Marta and Owen for Tuesday. Since the weather was nice, we ordered in some Cactus Club poke and Marta made up a salad and wontons. I picked up some champagne and we had a lovely brunch with mimosas on their back deck. Dom and Em were in preschool, and it was quite relaxing for me with just Eva to watch out for. Her and Phoebe mostly chased each other around sharing (fighting over) snacks.

5. Dinner with the sibs. Adam and Myles came for beef dip dinner after Phoebe's party on Sunday, and then Jeff and Marta and Owen came for dinner on Tuesday! I made chicken vindaloo and it was divine.

Deeeeefinitely would have paid for this in a restaurant. So good!

6. Spring weather. The sunnier days are getting up to around 14 degrees these days, and I'm reminded again and again why this is my favourite season. Yesterday Dave took the kids outside to play while I had a zoom meeting and then I started prepping dinner, tidying the kitchen, watching Eva play, and having a sip of wine. Thiiiiiiiis is what spring is all about!

Lately - Gerbers/Parks/Swimming/Playdates/Boosters!

Things have been SO busy! All great and fun things, and I am tiiired!

Last Saturday evening we went to the park with Jesse and Kirsten and the kids.

We tried haha

Eva and Wren did the teeter totter together. Eva was stoked

Wren was more stoic haha

Sunday Scott & Ash came over for a playdate. By the time we decided to go outside it started raining, so we suited up and went out anyway.

I held Eva's hand to walk back to our place and since then she's been walking much more around the house.

Sunday afternoon I took Emilia to run some errands and we picked up a case of wine I'd ordered for myself. I normally buy myself very very cheap wine, but this time I bought some cheapies and a few nicer treats for myself too. I deserve it :)

Monday I took all three kids to Costco by myself for... I think only the second time. I'm getting braver at taking all 3 and it went really well. Dom couldn't go in the buggy, but he just rode on the back of the cart. I remember doing this as a kid too.

I found another huge box of girl clothes in the garage I had forgotten about and it was all stuff that fits Eva right now and is the right season. Yes! So cute! <3 Also so funny to see her in dresses. She's worn onesies and pants or jammies almost her entire life.

I had some quiet time at home, and was interrupted by Dom. I ain't even mad hahaha.

Tuesday since the kids are still on Spring Break, we went swimming with Scott, Ashleigh, Phoebe, and Opa came too! Mom & Dad just got back from Hawaii late the night (early the morning?) before. The kids did pretty well at the pool. We really need to get them into swimming lessons. It hasn't been a priority as we're never really around water. Dom had a ton of fun splashing and playing. Emilia was extremely nervous. Back when we went to Whistler last June, she was walking in the "warm" tub on the bench and then suddenly fell into the deep spot she couldn't touch in. We had to pull her out of the water and I think that traumatized her. She refused to let go of our hands at the pool I think assuming the ground would suddenly fall out from underneath her. By the end she was a little bit more brave, and wants to go back again so she can "walk in the water!" Eva was overwhelmed at first and then once she got comfortable, she didn't stop smiling. She has the cheesiest grin ever and showed it off for everyone.

I brought the rest of our rice krispie squares I'd made the day before to enjoy after swimming. Glad I did, because these kids were HANGRY!

Wednesday morning I went to work, and then went home to pick up Dom to bring him back to the LEC for his COVID booster. They had the system very well streamlined and we were in and out SO quickly (other than waiting the required 15 minutes after the shot). Dom was a bit nervous, but held it together and was very proud of himself again. He has to get his Kindergarten shots soon too, and apparently they do those at the LEC too so I'll try to book there.

In the afternoon Mom & Dad came for dinner and watched the kids after bedtime for us so we could go to small groups. It was a beautiful day again so we went for a walk after dinner and got some fresh air. While we were at small groups, they watched the new Spiderman in the theatre which we watched earlier in the week with Jesse and Kirsten. It was SO good. Loved every second of it. Dave was low key devastated he couldn't be there to experience Mom & Dad's first theatre experience, but we got back for the last 5 minutes of the movie anyway.

Yesterday was also jam-packed. It was Phoebe's birthday, and Ash & Pheebs came over for a playdate in the morning before first nap. After naptime, I packed the kids up and went to Dinosaur Park in Langley with them and met up with Ash, Phoebe, and Ash's Mom & sisters. The kids had a blast of course and had a nice bath afterwards haha. I enjoyed watching Dom get more comfortable with his body and abilities and practice climbing big things. Emilia tried too, but is a bit more cautious still.

Lost the girls for a second. Found them having a powwow behind the island with their snacks

First of all, all their hair is the exact same colour. Second of all, I so appreciate when Ash plays with the kids haha. Playing is not my strong suit and I don't love it, but it's her natural state. Good for everyone! haha

I tried to get a picture of them going down together, but this was the closest I could get haha

After Eva's second nap, we packed up again and went to the Bose Farms amenities room (house?) for a Gerber gathering with just about everyone. It was Opa G's 79th birthday as well as Phoebe's birthday, and we celebrated Greg & Laura's 25th anniversary as well as a number of other March birthdays. We also celebrated the first "normal" gathering in two years! We were having a really good time catching up, and as we packed up to get ready to go Dave offered to take the kids home and put them to bed so I could stay for a bit longer. I accepted the offer and went back in. It was nice to be able to give my full attention instead of having my brain half on children while I tried to chat. The venue was perfection and even had a theatre downstairs that we were playing movies on so the kids popped in and out of there throughout the afternoon. We got to meet some of the new babies/toddlers born into the Gerber fam for the first time which was amazing and strange! Fun to show off our families to each other after so long.

Aunty Yvonne winning all the littles over with toys and treats. Genius move. Also I love that Eva is so easygoing. She'll go to almost anyone. SO different from Emilia at this age who wouldn't even go to Dave. Much more relaxing!

Great Opa and Great Oma with all their great grandchildren! 6 of these babies were born in 2021 within 6 months of each other! Wow

Let's see if I can figure out the birthdays oldest to youngest. At least the birth months!

Dom's such a guys guy. He and Roman became friends and played soccer in the theatre

Ryan shared some nice words for his parents' 25th anniversary. I can remember the day he was born. It was hilarious hugging him and his brothers. I haven't hugged them in probably 10 years and all of a sudden they're like real men. Strange experience! I'm sure our uncles and aunts feel the same way about all of us growing up and having children of our own haha.

Today I had Marta, Owen, Ashleigh and Phoebe over for a playdate. Dom and Emilia helped me make cookies in the morning, and then they (Dom especially) were absolutely nuts and overwhelming during the playdate. He just gets overwhelmed and doesn't know what to do with himself. I put Eva to bed early since she had a terrible morning nap, and then Ash and I took Dom, Emilia and Phoebe outside for a bit. Nice to get some fresh air and burn some of that pent up energy.

This evening Ashleigh is coming over for the Bridgerton season 2 premier on the big screen! I'm exhausted and peopled out, but it's all good things. Tomorrow will be a rest day, and then on Sunday we're going to Phoebe's first birthday party!

(I forgot to post last night, so the REAL today I popped in at Mom & Dad's for a coffee, and my cousin Roman came over for a playdate with Dom. Super cute and fun for them :))
