Weekend - Advent Calendar Activities

This Advent Calendar filled with activities is the best thing ever this COVID Christmas season. It is keeping us accountable for getting out of the house, doing fun things, and focusing on the positive.

Friday was absolutely gorgeous, so we added on to our Advent activity. It was supposed to just be to have hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles, but we added in an evening Christmas light walk first!

I was JUST saying how Dom always has the goofiest smiles in pictures. His ears must have been burning, because look at this beauty! So handsome <3

He made up for it later :)

On Saturday our Advent activity was to have a waffle dinner by candlelight. We invited Scott and Ashleigh to join us which made it feel a little extra special. During the day though, it was another incredibly beautiful day, so my parents invited us over for an outdoor hot chocolate. It was easy to keep our distance, and so refreshing to sit in the sunshine and see them in person. We'd talked over Zoom a couple times in the last few weeks, but it's just not the same.

In the morning Scott came by as well to help us prep a loaf of sourdough. Somehow we jumped on that bandwagon (finally) and our starter is crazy!

I had a quiet time nap on the couch and was joined by my firstborn when he decided quiet time was over. He's so big.

Dom wrote "Mommy"!

After the kids went to bed we watched the latest episode of the Mandalorian. Ah. SO GOOD!

Sunday morning we baked our first loaf of sourdough. It turned out great! Better than I was expecting for sure. Before we cut into it, Dave insisted on giving me one of my birthday presents a few days early (my birthday is on Friday). I unwrapped my big fancy bread knife! Kicks the crap out of our little one we got with our set 8 years ago!

It got a little dark on top, but wasn't chewy and didn't taste burnt. Our oven does run hot, so maybe I'll decrease the temp a bit, or reduce the lidless baking time? Suggestions?

Our advent activity for Sunday was to visit Gramma and Grandpa outdoors. They planned a way to make it fun and special and it turned out great! The weather held out and we kept warm by the fire. They set up their trailer in the driveway with the awning, and we had hot dogs, hot chocolate and rice crispie squares outside. They had a slide set up for the kids, and we brought our table so they could play with toys outside. When we weren't eating/drinking we wore masks and it seemed like the perfect safe way to visit.

I thought it was getting late and checked the time and it was 4:45 haha! Oh these dark days! Less than 2 weeks until days start getting longer again!

This morning I worked, but today our advent activity is to build a fort! That's a Daddy activity for sure!
