A Cabin Long Weekend

There is nothing better than looking forward to a trip to the cabin. Last year, this time, we made a last second decision to go to the cabin for Canada Day Long Weekend. We literally decided an hour before we were on the road. This time, we had a few days to plan for it, and made sure we had our new ride JUST in time!

There isn't much to report from the weekend. We ate lots, didn't drink at all (this was tough at times), and got a bit of a sun tan! I walked at LEAST 10,000 steps per day (more like 15,000), and we enjoyed some Canada Day fireworks.

Pick up new car, load it up, and get on the road! Sherlock was a perfect angel the whole drive. His crate was in the very back, and we never heard a peep out of him. I don't know if it's the smoother, quieter ride, or him being farther away from us, but he seems to love the new car!

David and I had the first night and morning to ourselves, which was absolutely wonderful. The weekend over-all wasn't super relaxing, but some of the down-time moments were exactly what the doctor ordered. A break from our hectic lives. We both put our phones away, chose not to connect to Wifi, and just enjoyed life.

First morning view from the cabin

First breakfast. I made David breakfast in bed as I was up earlier with the dog. This is the first time I think that I made HIM breakfast in bed. I forgot how good bacon & egg muffins are!

When Sherlock wasn't sleeping at the cabin, he was swimming, or screaming at us to throw the ball for him. This was our view... Just a crazy intense toller!

We went for a walk up the hill towards the mountain the first morning and saw this rainbow around the sun! I can't remember what this is called, or how it is caused, but I remember talking about it in school at some point in my 15 years of education. We also saw a few adult hawks (?) teaching their young how to hunt. They were flying all above us. Very cool!

Vineyards at Veranda Beach on our way back down the hill

Family photo at the top of the hill! It is so hard to get a dog to look at a camera for a selfie. Why don't they know what's going on?! Haha. I was even holding a treat up at the phone. He was more focused on getting home and out of the sun I think. Poor Sherly doesn't do so well in the heat!

A man down the road bought a large piece of property that just last year was completely arid desert land. He has worked his butt off to make it a luscious green plot with a basketball and tennis court. Amazing!

David had been dreaming for months of playing basketball here, and on our walk around the pond some guys were out there playing and naturally David got invited to play a game with them. His dream came true! He ran back to the cabin to get his shoes and ran right back to play basketball into the evening.

This blogger website isn't very user friendly. Why can't I rotate this photo?! Anyway it's a delicious meal of steak, caramelized onions & mushrooms, boiled potatoes, salad, corn, and yes... a tiny sip of wine to go with my red meat. I'm only human.

Playing some crazy dice game down by the lake. Enjoying our quiet time on our last evening at the cabin.

Karen & Darcy came up to the cabin as well on Saturday afternoon, so we got to spend one day with them and the girls which was lovely! Wish we could have stayed up longer!

Laura having an evening campfire snuggle with puppy Penny.

I know this looks almost identical to the one above, but it is just so beautiful there every morning I can't help but take a picture! This is what we look out at when we eat breakfast... Seriously?!

CREPES! This sweet and savory combination is perfect.

The cabin is every dog's happy place! Sherlock and Shadow showing Penny the ropes of the water.

A rare (non-selfie) shot of me. It's funny how we forget to take photos when we don't have our phones in our pockets 24/7!
P.S. this hanging chair is the best.

Getting my tan on during our last day at the cabin. We decided not to leave until 3pm to hopefully avoid some of the long-weekend traffic. Good thing we did! Any earlier and we would have been stuck behind a major accident west of Princeton!

View on the other side while sun-tanning.

As we drive away in our new vehicle we say goodbye to the lake and the cabin!

The Okanagan is such an amazing and beautiful area with the lakes, vineyards, orchards, rolling hills, sunshine... I could live here one day (wayyyyy down the road...)

Until next time, favourite place...
We'll be back up here for Opa & Oma's 50th Anniversary celebration over the August Long Weekend. And then maybe again in September or November for a baby-moon? We will see!
