Weekend Shenanigans

Well THAT was a whirlwind weekend!

This was finally the weekend we were celebrating David's 25th birthday with the big party we'd been planning for months. I will write a separate blog post on the party, but there's a little info below!

Quick recap.

Friday evening Elissa and Michael came over and graciously gave up their evening to help us set up/prep for the big party. We SO appreciate their help and company. David and I are pretty convinced we may have killed each other if we were left to the decorations with just the two of us.

David and Michael being champs hanging up our streamers and balloons!

Elissa and I were feeling pretty proud of our meat and cheese plate. Hard to tell in this photo but those are little chalkboard markers to label what each item is. I got them from David's mom for my birthday. Super cute!

I'm teaching Sherlock the ropes at Blackjack.

Saturday morning David and I woke up to tidy the place up a bit, and then brought Sherlock away to Coddled Canines Dog Daycare for the day/night. Best $50 we ever spent. We were able to go through with our hectic day and night with the full confidence that Sherlock was completely happy where he was. We didn't want him to be over-whelmed at the party or snotting everyone's dress clothes!

After dropping Sherlock off, David and I headed down to the Olive Garden to meet his parents for his birthday lunch. They were not able to attend the party as they headed down to Orlando to go to Universal Studios and go on a cruise through the Bahamas! We're only slightly jealous!

David was very excited about the birthday gift from his parents! Vintage Canucks jersey!

Can't go to the Olive Garden without eating their Zuppa Toscana! Deeeelicious!

Although we were all stuffed, our waitress insisted on bringing David a birthday dessert creation. We mostly just ate the raspberry, chocolate and caramel sauce, but it was a nice gesture!

From lunch, we were headed back home where we knew Jeff was already waiting. As we pulled up we saw my parents' car in the visitor parking, and David figured they came by to see the place as they also wouldn't be able to attend party because they flew to Hawaii early Sunday morning! I knew something else was up, as we had planned a surprise for Saturday afternoon. I whipped out my phone and took a video of Scott jumping on David from behind! My parents had flown him in from Edmonton to surprise David for his big day.

Unfortunately David doesn't want me to post the video (although I think it's a real gem!). We'll have to settle for this picture of the two of them from the party.

So much love and surprise! David had been talking for the past 3 months about how sad he was that Scott wouldn't be able to be at his party. As a family we kept it a secret that he had a flight booked. After it sunk in that Scott was actually here David said, "Alright. Birthday can be over now. It's all complete!" or something to that effect.

Dad brought over a bottle of Kraken rum for us to open at midnight to do a toast to Jeff's birthday! {His birthday was on Sunday}

The rest of Saturday afternoon we finished up the food and drink preparation, and got ready for the big party!

At 5:45 our first guests arrived, and we weren't in bed until 4:00 am (with the time-change)!
Without saying too much about the party, I'll just say that it was PERFECT. It exceeded David's (and my) expectations.
{Blog post to come on the Casino Royale party, but here's one teaser picture from the evening}.

Intense game of Roulette!

We were all up and at em by late morning on Sunday. The boys slept over, so they helped us tidy up a bit. Then we cooked two packs of bacon and feasted on a nice hangover breakfast. Not all of us were hungover in the typical sense of the term, but I'd definitely call it a people hangover at the very least! Exhausted!

Since we were all together, we connected with Opa and Oma and headed over there for lunch at noon. It's been a long time since we've visited with them so it was nice to catch up a bit. Jeff and Adam zipped home to Vancouver after lunch while David, Scott and I went back to our place to veg out for a bit.

Kali was just as tired as us at Opa & Oma's!

The remainder of the afternoon was spent learning how to play Craps. What a confusing game! Fun once you get the hang of it though!
