Cabin - Beer Island, Wine Tasting, Wind Storms, Anniversary & Olympics

Over the August long weekend, the Gerbers all went up to the cabin to celebrate (likely for the final time this year) Opa & Oma's 50th anniversary!

David and I arrived Thursday evening, and headed home on Tuesday. It was the longest break from work I've had since we went to Orlando last November.

The weather was amazing, food even better, and the company was perfect. There were between 30 and 40 people there at any given time, and 9 dogs. It was hectic to say the least, but we all got along and had tons of fun together!

Here are some (okay... many...) photos compiled from the weekend from myself, David, and my family.

Get out on beer/party/splash-island! The only way to beat the heat! Even Oma is out there! That's how you know it's hot out!

David, Jeff & Scott enjoying their raspberry-lemonade margaritas

I bought that little pink cold-cup in the background before we left, and drank water and punch out of it every day. It was a strange, but good experience being 100% sober and completely hydrated at the cabin the whole time! It's easy to forget what it feels like not to have the afternoon drink-induced nap, and go a whole weekend with no headaches or anything! New appreciation for sobriety! {Don't be fooled into thinking I didn't miss those afternoon margaritas... I'm just talking myself down...}

Typical afternoon with the dogs

Saturday evening, Uncle Greg & Aunt Yvonne put together an Olympics/games event that took place in the back of the property. By the end of the games, everyone was in stitches. Some people (I suspect Opa) had started a pea-shooting war (shooting little beans/peas through straws) and a water-balloon fight with the leftovers from water-balloon volleyball. Fun was had by all!

Aunty Jo.. intense!

Just before being pegged in the back of the head!

Uncle Greg. Clearly this game was no joke!

Uncle Rich... hate to be on the receiving end of that one!

We had a pretty major windstorm Sunday afternoon, so a bunch of us went down to the water to bask in the gusts! So fun. Just had to make sure we dodged all the branches flying at us from next door!

This is how windy it was! The dogs all looked like they had their heads out the car window! Hahaha. Sherlock's ears crack me up. He was LOVING the wind though!
THIS LITTLE NUT-JOB! I gotta tell ya... he stole a full 1/2 cob of corn off my cousin's plate one dinner-time. He ran around the yard with it parading his prize, until someone got too close and gulped the whole thing down! We were concerned because corn is in the top 10 list of things surgically removed from dogs' bowels as they cause obstructions easily. Thank GOODNESS Rick Douglas, an amazing vet from Surrey, has a cabin just a few doors down. He was happy to check Sherlock out for us, and felt his intestines a few times. He seemed optimistic the corn was still in his stomach and would pass naturally either way.
Lo and behold... three days later Sherlock pukes up a corn cob in our hallway. DISGUSTING! I'm very grateful nothing bad happened, and he's as healthy as ever, but... that wasn't pleasant. We will be working on manners while people are eating... Stinker!

Sherlock came in for a cuddle while I sat on the grass watching the waves. You can still see how windy it is by looking at his fur. Amazing.
Sherlock seemed a little extra clingy this weekend. I am not complaining one bit! Every 20 minutes or so, he would come search for David & I (or whichever one was missing) and just check in for a second. Come sit for a pet and a kiss, and then take off to play again. It's nice to know that with so many people and distractions around, he still remembers who his "people" are, and loves us!

TJ. Another dog soaking up the gusts!

Many people had gathered out front after cleaning up the beach to watch the storm roll through.

As it was Sunday, and I was 18 weeks that day, we decided to do a family belly-photo with my brothers. (L-R: Adam, Renee, Jeff, Scott). Looks like I may have some catching up to do! Haha

Bentley, another pup!

Typical evening on the front deck. With 30-40 people, no matter where you went was a crowd. Fun! But exhausting (especially for this introvert!)

Poor Sherlock. He plays so hard during the day! Completely exhausted at night!

Evening kayakers

David and some cousins took a hike up the mountain early Tuesday morning. I would have loved to go as well, but I was sick as a dog, so I stayed in bed a little longer!

On Sunday (pre-storm) we had to bring Aly to Osoyoos to meet her parents. We decided to pack our whole family into our car and do some wine-tasting and make a day of it! I was the DD of course... Also, Sherlock decided to soak up the A/C before we got on the road!

Everybody in! David stayed behind with the dog, and allowed the 7 of us to go enjoy our day. Look at that! 7 adults in our car! So proud :) Also... I LOVE wine-tasting.

First winery = La Stella. A gorgeous Italian winery just north of Osoyoos. I've been here quite a few times, but the view from the balcony they do their tastings on is always breath-taking.

Tasting menu, Rose, and super special spit-jar.

Took me a while to get over the fact that I don't like to spit in public, but at least at this winery they gave me a cute little jar to discreetly spit into! And yes... wine-tasting is still fun when you can't actually drink the wine. Maybe less fun... but at least everyone else got tipsy!

Second winery = Adega. This was my first time at this winery, and they sampled their entire tasting menu plus two extras (a Reserve Syrah & a port)... that is 13 wines! Everyone who actually drank the wine left this one a little wobbly on their feet!

My much less cute and discreet spit bucket :( At every winery they seemed to get bigger and more obnoxious!

Third and final winery = Nk'Mip (pronounced inkameep). This was my first time to this one as well. We did a quick wine tasting in the tasting room, but the main reason for this stop was to meet up with Aly's parents and to grab some food!

Mom & I shared the fish & chips (which may have been the best fish and chips ever) as well as this tomato & cucumber salad with goat cheese croquettes. Seriously... how delicious and fancy is this?!

This was Sherlock every night. Somehow David and I scored a room to ourselves at the cabin, and let the boys sleep in our tent. Our room had a queen bed and a single, so naturally Sherlock figured he got his own bed! This picture was taken 30 seconds after opening our door to go to bed. Someone was ready!

Such a beautiful place. It looks so peaceful in the pictures, but remember... there were 30-40 people there! haha

Everyone hanging out, drinking, playing games, enjoying the sun!

Dinner-time chaos!

On Monday, the boys & a few others went golfing at the Oroville golf course. Looks like they had a great time! What did Jeff call this on Instragram? "Dudes in carts throwin darts"
