Trip to Orlando - Day 1

Today was a travel day for David and I.
We were up at 03:30 this morning and on the road by 04:00. David's dad drove us to the airport.

At the airport, David was randomly selected for a secondary search. He had to go through the X-ray machine and have all his carry-on belongings swabbed. This was very exciting for us because it was like real life Border Security!

Tim Hortons for breakfast!

Our first flight was from Vancouver to Denver, Colorado. Much of the flight was beautiful and right over the Rocky Mountains!

Sunrise over the wing.

Flying over Mount Baker!

So gorgeous with the different terrains.

 Loads of farms!

Finally in Denver!

We then had a two hour layover in Denver so we went and grabbed a bite to eat.

Tossed salad, chicken tenders and sweet potato fries! Yum!

Our next flight was a little rougher. We  had some turbulence near the end. The seatbelt sign was on most of the trip, but we made it safe and sound! We noticed on that flight how unbelievably flat Kansas and most of the Middle of US is! I've never been to the prairies, but it was just a whole lot of farm land with no hills.

Kansas flats

Here come the clouds!

In the thick of the clouds!

Finally see land again approaching the airport!

We arrived at Orlando airport as scheduled, and we got our bags very quickly! It was SUPER muggy and 30 degrees at 6:15pm Florida time. We quickly changed into cooler clothes and went on a hunt for a cab... Along with the rest of the world apparently! We were in line for a cab for well over an hour. It was so long there were locals video taping its length. Brutal.

We eventually made it to the Best Western Plus Universal where were staying.

Two beds?!.... Okay then. Haha

We ran out for a bite to eat at the pub across the parking lot. I enjoyed French onion soup and a beer flight :)

Very excited about my beer flight after such a long day!

We then stopped at Walgreens and bought a bottle of wine and some crackers. Didn't realize till we got back to hotel that it's a corked bottle! No corkscrew at the hotel either :(
We tried to pry it open with tweezers, but did not have success. Bed time.

Maybe I'll try find a Harry Potter bottle opener for tomorrow.
Speaking of Harry Potter... Can't wait!

Bad photo, but it's a Harry Potter billboard!!

  1. Omgosh love the post! Also push the cork in when you don't have a cork screw. A butter knife or other end of fork/spoon will do the trick!

  3. So fun! Love how you were excited about the search. That flight sounds way dreamier than my kids vomiting on our flight home from Orlando :)
