Lions Bay Weekend

December 20th is my parents' 30th Wedding Anniversary. (WOW!)

For their 25th anniversary, we took a trip with just our family to Sooke area on Vancouver Island (no significant others). We ate, drank, played games, storm-watched, and had an absolute blast together.

This year, Mom & Dad wanted to do something similar, however I am 35 weeks pregnant and wasn't comfortable travelling that far away. They rented a house in Lions Bay for the weekend, The house was very grand. It was like a log cabin, but in gigantic 4000+ sq. foot form! It had 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, two dining areas, kitchen, a living room with fireplace and a loft upstairs.

The views from this place were crazy. We could see all the way to Gibsons out the front when it was clear out, and off the back deck there was a waterfall literally just feet away from the railing. Incredible, but it may have been causing some flooding around the house and neighbouring properties. Eep! We had realtors and people coming through the house to check on the water levels outside. I was pretty convinced we were going to float down the mountain like Noah's Ark, but alas... we remained anchored.

David and I took the day off on Friday and went up to meet my parents at the house before noon on Friday. We spent the day relaxing and making some food before the rest of the clan got there.

How does a family of 6 plus 4 significant others spend a weekend? How else?! Eating (way too much) amazing food, drinking spectacular wine, playing games, reading books, relaxing, and laughing until we cry.

Here is a collection of photos (in no particular order) from everyone :)

Well... this photo just doesn't do the waterfall justice at all!

I read this entire book on the Saturday. Felt so accomplished!

A classic game of Heads Up. We played many different decks, and I think the "Friends" one we bought was my favourite!

Yum YUM! On Saturday night we had a big dinner to celebrate the anniversary. Beef tenderloin (cooked to rare perfection), double stuffed/baked potatoes, butternut squash, stoofpeertjes, caramelized onions & mushrooms, garlic bread, and fantastic wine.

Sherlock loved having all the huge windows to look out of.

Could get used to that!

One of the MANY games we played over the weekend... Harry Potter Monopoly of course. I opted to be the banker and just took off when I got bored to go read my book :) No regrets!

Shadow, our resident senior. She loved it at the house because we let her snuggle on the couches!

The whole gang just before leaving on our last day!

What a weekend! So glad we were able to get away and spend some time together. Next time we do a weekend away like this things are going to be drastically different for David and I at least!
