Thankful Thursday - 8

Missed last Thankful Thursday as I was out of town at the cabin!
Here's a delayed post!

1. Firefighters. At the cabin this week there were fires all around us. The fires were fought valiantly by firefighters and volunteers. Everything from ground crews, to helicopters, to float planes picking up water in front of the cabin. In the Oliver fire that we could see from the cabin no wineries were harmed (which was of course a great concern for us). The below photos I've taken from the Oliver Daily News website.

You can see how the blackened mountain came right down to the edge of the vineyards/wineries. We watched from the cabin feeling for all these owners and workers possibly watching their livelihood burn down.

2. Clear skies & clean air. There was one day at the cabin where the smoke was so bad we had to stay indoors. That was the first day of the above Oliver fire. When the smoke cleared up, it really allowed us to appreciate clean air!

Before: Smokey

After: Clear!

3. Hanging out with T&J. Juanita is my cousin on my mom's side, and her wedding to Tom last August was the reason we ventured out to Europe! Growing up , we only got to see each other for a couple weeks every couple years. It's been great as we get older the last few years reconnecting more frequently and without our parents' help. These two are gems. Love them to death. They were here for a few weeks this summer, but are now off to New York and then back home to Holland.
