Canada Day Weekend

I never really do anything special for Canada Day, and I didn't have any plans to this year either despite the 150 celebrations. It ended up being a really busy weekend though, because everyone else wanted to make plans. Not complaining!

Saturday morning I got a text from Aunty Sonya asking if we were going to Elim for the parade. I hadn't heard about it, but it sounded right up our alley! We didn't have much Canadian attire, so while Dave and Dom snoozed, I quickly made up a paper crown and threw on my Canada 150 Sweetlegs Leggings and we were off!

Many of the Elimites were decked out in their red and white, with some family members in tow. The parade was led by a band of cadets, bagpipes and all. We paraded through the village, and then met up at the "Oasis" for a presentation and singing of Oh Canada. *Does Oh Canada actually have 4 verses? Or was this just a strange long version of it?*

Dominic with Uncle Arie. This is before I took off his hat and he freaked out and only wanted to be held by me. Oops!

After this it was back home for Dom's nap, and then back out to Mom & Dad's. Scott and Courtney were having a BBQ for some friends and invited us for lunch. SOLD! From this BBQ, it was straight home for another nap, and then back out for dinner at Amy & Brent's! Always fun to hang out and eat with this family! Back home for bed, and time to veg and watch some Scandal! We're into Season 6 and things are getting good again! Oh boy!

On Sunday we went to church and then David tried to invite some peoples over for brunch. Scott & Courtney were the only free ones, so they joined us. We zipped home to start the prep and decide what to make. WAFFLES! Waffles & Mimosas. We've had this champagne in our fridge for longer than I'd care to admit. Everything turned out deeeeelicious!

Once Dom was up from his nap I voted for a walk around Tynehead. It was the perfect day for the shady loop. While we were out we were invited to Mom & Dad's for dinner. Another day of not having to cook?! Again, SOLD! After dinner we were back home to put Dom to bed, and then Scott & Courtney came over again to watch some Harry Potter. We're going to HP Trivia at Edith and Arthur's next week and figured we should brush up.

IT'S BACK! We grew up drinking Clearly Canadian because my Dad worked for them and we used to get free(?)...discounted(?) cases all the time. Super nostalgic for us!

Pretty much every time Dominic was awake this weekend we were out. It makes life easier in some ways because I/we don't have to entertain him, but it's also exhausting. The nice part about being committed to quality sleep for him (other than us also having quality sleep), is that we have an easy out to come home and rest for a while if we're out all day!

Monday was a holiday for those working folks as well. Costco in the morning, and then Courtney, Mom & I spent a few hours assembling wedding programs for Adam & Aly's wedding that is in a few weeks!

I have photos of us working on the programs, but didn't want to share just yet :)

Every crafting day needs a bottle of wine!

I realize as I'm writing this post that this all sounds rather mundane, but that's real life!
