Dominic - 7 Months Old

This is starting to get scary now! Why is time going so fast?! Someone tell me time goes faster in the summer and it's going to slow right down again... please!

This boy is getting chunky! All those solids are serving him well!

Our little nugget is 7 months old now and is changing every day. He is developing new skills and abilities, and I'm loving him more and more.

He's much chubbier from 6 months to 7 months! He has chins again! <3

Weight: 18lb 12oz. (70th percentile)
Height: 71cm; 28inches (85th percentile)

Likes:
  • Me! It's sometimes nice, sometimes annoying having him be such a momma's boy. Mostly I'm trying to enjoy it because I know it likely won't always be this way.
  • David's Donald Duck voice. That's always sure to get a giggle!
  • Anticipation. When my mom tickles him, backs away and sneaks back up on him he just about dies he's so excited. Melt my heart.
  • Swimming and splashing! Bathtub, pool, kiddie pool... Loves it all
  • Standing
  • EATING! He is nuts about eating. I've yet to see him decline food because he's full. How do I know when to stop feeding him?! He will just go and go and go. He doesn't make those fun faces most babies do when they try new things. He's just like "Huh. That could go in my mouth... GIVE ME MORE!"
  • Screens or anything with buttons. I got him his own "phone", but it turns out it was a remote and it sings songs about watching TV and how great it is *Rolls Eyes*... What the heck kind of kid toy is this?! What a waste of $16.00
  • Nakedness
  • Animals. Squeals with excitement for dogs and donkeys alike! Sherlock will occasionally make his day by licking his face or laying beside Dom letting him pull his hair. Time to teach Dom some puppy manners!
  • Peek-A-Boo. Sometimes. If we put a light blanket over his head and then he pulls it off and sees us that's pretty exciting.
Dislikes:
  • Being in sight of me, but not being with me. And then being with me but wanting to go to someone else... endless cycle.
  • Waiting for food. Lots of high chair pounding and grunting.
  • Not being able to reach something. Again... lots of grunting and whining.
  • Having his face wiped off after he's expertly smeared half his dinner all over it.
Notes:
  • Knows his name and will look at whoever says it. Super cute.
  • Ticklish!
  • He started standing up supported on his wooden cube July 8, and then just the other day on July 25 he pulled himself up using the ottoman. Yikes!! He's been pulling himself up using our hands for quite a while though. Every time he's sitting and someone comes by he reaches out his hands looking for fingers to grab onto to pull himself up to standing.
  • He will reach and fling himself towards something he wants. He isn't crawling yet, and doesn't have the greatest upper body strength, so this often results in a face plant.
  • He has no fear. This is great and nerve wracking. I don't know if babies his age even can have fear of water, but he will dive bomb after a toy if it's out of his reach, face plant in the water, and when I sit him back up he just keeps playing like nothing even happened. No turning your back on this kid!
  • He is a total ham. He sees the camera come out? He smiles. He pulls himself up? He looks all around to see who's watching. He whines to get picked up? He smiles and hams it up the moment he is.
  • Lots of babbling and screeching and fart noises.
  • He really recognizes people now which is so fun. He has certain little games with some people too, for example my mom used to be the "jumping lady" where he would jump up and down on her lap EVERY time. Now she's the tongue sticking out lady, and he tries to copy her faces.
  • Lots of playing around with his tongue, which results in some interesting faces.
  • Fully and officially sleep trained. Gramma & Grandpa came up to Kaleden to watch him while we were at the wedding, and they were able to do the full bedtime routine and put him down to bed without a fuss. This is the first time someone other than Dave or I have done the bedtime. And the first time in a long time he's taken a bottle from someone else as well. They tell me there was zero issue! Sleep training was the Best. Decision. Ever.
  • He is no longer on his reflux meds. We stopped them a week and a half before we went away for the wedding. Woo hoo!
  • I can eat dairy again! DOUBLE WOO HOO! Part of me wonders if it was ever actually an issue for him, or if it was just the reflux.
  • Everyone always comments on his big blue eyes, and giant bald noggin.
  • He stills sucks his fingers for comfort, mostly when he's tired or fallen over or something.
  • Sleeping through the night still. Love that he's a great sleeper. I'm just starting to consider dropping dream feed because he seems to be too sleepy and lazy and not hungry. This may cause an additional night waking for a little while until he gets used to it, but that's okay!
  • He eats solids 2-3 times a day. a typical day schedule looks like this:
    • 6:00 wake up
    • Breastfeed
    • Feed solids (oatmeal, banana, peanut butter, yogurt, prunes, or something like that usually)
    • 8:00 nap
    • 9:30 wake up
    • Breastfeed
    • 11:45 nap
    • 1:30 wake up
    • Breast feed
    • 3:45 nap
    • 4:30 wake up
    • Feed solids (3-4 ice cube size of peas, carrots, sweet potato, butternut squash, prunes, apple sauce, etc. Usually a few puffs and sometimes some little pieces of meat we're eating. He LOVES meat).
    • 6:30 bedtime routine
      • Breastfeed
      • Diaper change/PJ's
      • Read Go Dog Go & Goodnight Moon
    •  7:00 bedtime
    • 10:00 dream feed
Now the fun part! Pictures & Video from the last month :)

Told you he's a ham! Enjoying his Butternut Squash. This was at the beginning of the month. He's much better at eating now.

Canada Day celebrations.

This boy loves his puppy.

And loves being naked...

And loves his Mommy

And his bedtime routine (Go Dog Go)

But especially his Mommy

How darling is this?! Our backup outfit for the wedding this month in case he soiled the original!

Still enjoys the Jolly Jumper, but less so now that he wants to be on the move more and more, and can stand on his own(ish)

So fun splashing with my toys!

I love this. The fact that his adorable bum has cellulite makes me feel better about myself somehow! Hahaha

It's so bright out Mom!
I think he looks huge in this picture. Does he look this monstrous every time I hold him?

So proud of himself

But first... let me take a selfie

Check out my adorable new hat from Aunty Candy!

Using the phone camera to lure him to pulling himself up on the ottoman.

Dad, I think this ball is still too big for me!

A small snippet of the silly game with Oma

We're not ready for you to be so big!! Pulling himself up on the ottoman for first(ish) time.

Getting ready for our 7 month photo shoot!

It was so hard to get pictures without his tongue sticking out. Here are some outtakes. This boy LOVES his tongue haha!

Dominic is 30 weeks old... already... Here's a photo of me at 30 weeks pregnant with him! I miss being pregnant sometimes. I'm probably romanticizing it, but I really enjoyed most of it. Funny how you block out the bad parts!

The fact that I have to go back to work in 5 short months is stressing me out so bad! I don't want to! It makes me enjoy the day to day less as I count down the days!

  1. He does look so lean in that 6 month shot!! I can't believe it's only been 7 months, feels like he's always been here!
