Tenth Anniversary Trip to MEXICO!

On November 4 we had our annual Complete Champions Reception at work which means I had a 13+ hour work day. Then on Saturday I had to work for 7 hours to try to get all the donations processed and reports sent off. In the meantime we were bringing the girls to Agassiz, bringing Dom to my parents, and packing for all of them and ourselves. It was not a relaxing day haha. However, after 9pm I was done work and we went to bed ready to get up at 5am! We were lucky about the time change though because it happened that night so it felt like 6am. Score!

I'm not going to detail every part of the trip because most of the days looked the same and that's too much work haha. Over all though, it was an absolutely MUCH needed trip for us. I was 100% depleted for a long while, so I needed some restoration. It was nice to reconnect and remember why we fell in love in the first place haha. Hopefully we don't have to wait 10 more years to go away again, but I completely understand how lucky we are to have been able to do it at all. And we are so incredibly grateful to our parents for taking on our children so we could go to Mexico to celebrate our 10th anniversary. They're a lot.

Grabbed some breakfast at the airport. Zero regrets getting that salad haha. I figured it would sit better than a carb & egg sandwich. I was right :)

Kinda cool watching the sunset from above

With Air Canada you get free transport from the airport to your hotel. We grabbed some beers with our Bahia Principe friends on the way. It was just under an hour and a half drive. After the 6 hour flight. After the 2.5 hour wait in the airport. After the 45 minute drive there. Long dayyyyy!

View from our room at night. I was excited to see in the morning.

We grabbed a few drinks and meandered down to the beach. This picture was taken in night mode. It was pitch black down there. Just the light of the moon haha. Go Google phone! Looks like daytime

The nice couple who offered to take a picture of us. Of course we had to reciprocate.

There's that day time view!! <3 Overlooking where we spent most of our time. Breakfast buffet under the white tents, adults only infinity pool and bar, and the adults only section of beach in front.

Thank you to Marta for providing nearly my entire wardrobe for the trip haha!

I read TWO books in the first 4 days of the trip. This is the life!

Our villa from the pool

"Happy Anniversary!"

The animals here are sooo habituated to humans. The birds at the buffet just wait until you look away and try to snatch your food.

Mojitos on the beach

The entertainment team at our hotel was excellent.

Our villa from the other side! Villa 68 :)

Having a resort with villas and with lots of green/jungle feel was very important to us. This totally lived up to those expectations.

Pretty confident I wore this same dress on our Mexican Honeymoon 10 years ago. Again, thanks Marta :)

Dave couldn't pass without getting this picture with the rays

First dinner at Dolce Vita! I was a little bit apprehensive about the dinner because our breakfast buffet was just okay, and the snack bar we ate at for lunch was terrible. Food is super important to me so I was kinda disappointed. The dinners were all excellent though, so that redeemed it all quite a bit!

Dave's beef carpaccio

Salmon in lemon sauce :P

Flaming sambuka for "dessert"

We stumbled upon a silent disco on our walk after dinner. Hiiiiiilarious! There are 3 DJs (red, blue, green) and you're given a pair of headphones that are blasting music and you can choose between the 3 colours to listen to the different DJs. Everyone is dancing and sometimes singing (poorly) and rocking out to the music in their headphones, but from the outside it just looks like a bunch of people dancing to nothing. My kind of party! Haha... the option to opt out of the noise whenever I want! Though I'll admit I was the one dragging Dave to the silent disco event the following night. So fun.

We ran into some people from Surrey who Dave had some connections with so we grabbed a snack with them after the disco. These raccoons. So habituated to humans. We did not feed them, but my goodness.

But also they are a thousand times more adorable than the Surrey trash pandas

There were two cats that always hung out outside our villa in the courtyard

Some drink signs at the "swing" bar. Not "Swingers" bar lol

Literal swing bar

More wild animals that are obviously fed by humans. Fulfilled a childhood fantasy meeting these beautiful coatis! <3

Fast food restaurant down the beach at the Tulum resort that was a part of our complex.

Cutest little baby coati <3

Trying out the "Mayan Riviera" drink. Very pretty, but we stuck with just the one haha. A little sweet for our tastes.

Yummy dinner at the steakhouse! This was actually also the breakfast buffet, but it's converted in the evening. Right by our room which was very handy.

Silver lining

Night two of the silent disco, where we went for longer than the last 20 minutes haha.

Teppanyaki! The food was super yummy, but it was super hot in there

Dave's keen eye noticed the reflection lined up nicely with the dip in the rocks

On our actual anniversary, we decided to join in on this aqua aerobics led by Jonathan, our favorite entertainment staff. It was the adults only section so much of the content was 18+ which was just hilarious. We hopped in on what we didn't realize was the last song, and it ended up being "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith which was our first dance song! 10 years earlier <3 What a nice coincidence!

After aqua aerobics the foam party started. They didn't advertise (that I saw) when/where these were happening, so it was an exciting surprise that day!

We ate at the gourmet restaurant in Coba (resort behind ours) and it was delicious! Excellent french onion soup, amazing filet mignon, and special dessert which we were too full to eat. They also brought a bottle of champagne to us for our anniversary

Dave asked for a taste of Whiskey so they brought a bourbon and a scotch

The next day we did a ring toss activity in the morning and then some mini golf in the afternoon after another round of aqua aerobics. I had low expectations, but...

I won! Haha. There were probably 12 people playing. First round we had 3 tries in our regular hand (right handed for us) and I sunk two of them. 20 pts and 40 pts. The next round we had 3 tries with our opposite side and only one-handed. Again, I sunk two of them for 40pts and 80pts. I was the winner by far with 180 points! Won a free bottle of tequila. As if there wasn't enough of that to go around anyway haha!

Stumbled upon another foam party in the main pool the next day

I dragged Dave down to the beach for our last full afternoon where we got to rest in the shade and I went for a few dips in the ocean.

This big guy was between me and the path to the bathroom. Good thing I'm not afraid of reptiles haha

Whistle whistle

I got no pictures of our room I realized until we were leaving. We had a king size bed, full bathroom, and then this sitting area and the balcony with the ocean view.

In the lobby waiting for the buffet to open for one last lunch!

View from the lobby looking out to the main pool area

A drink while we wait for our airport transport

We were at the airport many hours early and it was nearing dinner time, so we went to the Guy Fieri restaurant in the airport. We ordered a margarita and it was massive.

We also got some guacamole which was sooooo yummy and made right beside us. We didn't have guacamole the rest of the trip and I definitely missed it, so this was necessary.

And we split the "onion ring burger" which was fricking monstrous. It was very difficult to eat haha. Very messy. As one would expect from Guy Fieri.

It was a wonderful trip. Looking back it feels like another life haha. I'm so glad we could do it and make each other and our marriage a priority. We are right in the thick of life with little ones and it makes it so hard to connect in every day life. We're all for "marriage maintenance" trips, and we were due for a special/bigger one! Until next time, vacation!

One random thing I had written down that I forgot to mention is that in our room there were little bags of chips in the mini fridge. It felt weird. And they were just like regular Lays, but a different brand haha. Came in handy when we got the late night munchies though!
