Lately - Zoo/Air Show/Wedding/Summer Camp/Sickness/Quay/Museum/More Sickness

Remember last post how I said I was exhausted? Hahaha! I mean I was, but this last week has been next level exhaustion for other reasons! Anyway, here's the last two weeks of life! Lots of goodness and lots of sickness :)

On the 11th Rachel and Rebecca invited us to the zoo with them. It was Eva's first time going at an age where she could actually participate instead of just sitting in the stroller. She was very excited about everything. This first picture is her seeing and recognizing a giraffe. She could hardly believe it was a real giraffe!

There's a new Wallaby Walkthrough area which is basically an open area with a gravel path you have to stick to, where kangaroos and wallabies roam free. Very cool!

The cougar is never this active. It kept coming by to check out the kids at the window.

We came home for Eva's nap, and then went to Jeff & Marta's for dinner. We ended up staying later than usual to play some Rockband.

On the 12th we went out to Uncle John & Aunty Janis' in Abbotsford for the air show. Their property is directly across the street from the airport so we had an excellent view! I'd never been to the airshow before and it was very very cool. We got there just in time to catch the Snowbirds and two VERY loud fighter jets.

Very loud indeed.

She's really growing up and changing a lot lately! Her communication and vocabulary especially. I'm going to miss those little broken toddler sentences :(

Emilia's face haha

Dom collected some empty snail shells and has treasured them since that day.

The kids took turns driving the gator <3

Working on his golf swing

Sunday the 13th, Dave was out all day as part of his friend Keith's wedding party. I hung out with the kids, and then dropped them off at Mom & Dad's for a sleepover so I could also attend the wedding! It was hot. hot. hot. that day. The ceremony was outside (tented thank goodness), and the reception was inside but without A/C. Despite all of this, everyone had a great time and things got rowdy! We didn't get home til 1am. Zoiks!!

Eva's first french braid!! Didn't last long.

Dom drew our house haha. Top floor is him in his bunk bed with Sherlock on the floor (I think). Next level down is me cooking in the kitchen. I'm trying to take milk out of the fridge, but I dropped it (throwback to me being 9 months pregnant with Eva at Costco with the kids and dropping/smashing a full jug of milk all over the floor... they like to remind me of this moment occasionally haha). I also have something on the stove that appears to be burning. He even drew our light fixture we have over the island haha.
Next level he has Dave working at his desk, and he drew the pantry. He put Cheezies, kit kats, and I can't remember what else in there.
On the bottom floor we have Eva in her crib, apparently upset about something haha. Not sure where Emilia is or why she's not being taunted with this work of art, but I love it.

Gorgeous backdrop for the wedding!

They served champagne to you at your seat after the ceremony. Won me over!
I didn't know a soul at the wedding other than Dave and the groom. Lucky for me, the best man's wife was also there and knew absolutely no one. We were introduced and stuck together the whole night. It was kind of a fun and different experience being around a bunch of strangers. Could sort of let go of anyone's preconceived notions of me and just let go and "be".

My table list. I was spooked when I saw Stuart Graber. Obviously I read Stuart Gerber the first time haha.

The bride loves Winnie the Pooh. The favours were these adorable little honey jars. Unfortunately in my daze at 1230am I put it in my purse and didn't think about the fact that the lid might pop off. Arrived at home to very very gooey purse contents.

First dance started out traditional and they busted out into the final song from Grease! Super fun :)

I pulled an outfit change around 930pm because I really wanted to wear my black lacy dress but it was way too hot during the day. No regrets :)

On Monday we recovered and rested. We had burgers with the neighbours and Emilia had her best horseback riding lesson yet! It was an instructor she responds very well to, and she got to ride her favorite horse. She was confident, listened so well and tried new things!

Tinsel is the sweetest horse <3
She loves to snort and spray all over my leg though. And neigh (say hello) any time another horse walks into the barn.

Part of our new bedtime routine includes Emilia reading Mortimer with Eva and I. She has it memorized :)

The big kids had summer camp last week from Tues-Friday at church. I wasn't sure how they'd do (especially Emilia). I am so proud of them and how brave they were! Dom never even looked back when I dropped him off. Emilia was so brave considering she knew basically no one, and had never gone away from me that many days in a row like that. By the final day she was ready to stay home with me, but she stuck it out and had fun and was proud of herself too. I CANNOT believe she's starting Kindergarten in less than two weeks! Having feelings! Feelings all over the map!

I got a taste of what life will be like with just Eva at home all the time. It was very quiet! I have never ever had just one two-year-old at home. When Dom was Eva's age, Emilia was already almost 9 months old. This is new territory for me. I'm kind of excited.

Dave was feeling (very) under the weather and it was hot out, so to avoid him and cool off, we went straight from summer camp to Jeff & Marta's one day.

Dom and Emilia shared about their superhero theme at summer camp

Marta and I threw together some dinner and had a really nice time hanging out while the kids all played!

I don't know what's happening here. Sherlock fit himself perfectly into a little oval of their train track. \

Day two pick-up! Again we headed straight out because Dave was so sick. I did not want anything to do with that!

Some play time at Opa & Oma's while I made dinner. I had planned to make a greek dinner, but didn't want to do it at home where no one would eat it so this worked out great.

Back at home, Dave was completely out for 3 full days with fever, sore throat, fatigue, cough, and shortness of breath. He couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom without having to stop for a rest. He quarantined and/or masked the whole time he was sick. I had never seen him that sick before. We figured it must be COVID, but he tested negative 3 times so who knows. I suspect he picked something up at the rehearsal dinner or the wedding over the weekend.

The last day of camp was Superhero Dress-up day! We don't have any costumes, so the kids and I picked out and made some paper masks. They were a hit. They still are actually haha. Dom got right into the super hero groove and was extra helpful around the house. (I was extra thankful due to being a solo parent most of the week too!)

Ugh they're so cute

On Saturday Dave and Emilia went to the doctor. Dave wanted to get checked out and Emilia just needed some cream for a rash on her face. While they were out, I took the other two to visit Opa, Oma, Adam and Myles. Sunday I took Dom to church and then Dave took the big kids to the church BBQ and baseball game afterwards as he was feeling a lot better. It was a very smoky day due to all the fires in the Okanagan, but I'm glad they went. Eva and I walked up after her nap to hang out for a bit at the end too.

On Monday I invited Ash to join me at the Holland Shop and the Quay in New West. We all drove out together in the van and went for a nice walk to a new playground at the Quay. Dom kept asking where the "key" was haha.

Tuesday I texted them again to see if they wanted to join me at the Surrey Museum. Trying to cram some fun, free activities in before summer is over! Scott and Phoebe joined us.

These kiddos crashed my morning coffee <3

3.5 years ago, a week before COVID shut life down

Today. FEELINGS!

The first time they ever sat and played on the tablets at the museum.

This day I realized that Dom is no longer a little kid. He plays differently. He's aged out of the museum. Dang... Life is weird.

Emilia wanted to go check out the Mythical Creatures exhibit. Phoebe insisted they hold hands and they did so for about 10 minutes straight haha

A little too windy for a nice group shot I guess haha!

A gorgeous clear, moderate temperature day! This is very welcome after the extreme heat and/or smoky skies we've been having.

Yesterday I went to spin and then to work. I woke up with a tiny bit of a sore throat which sort of just happens sometimes so I didn't think anything of it. After spin it was feeling a bit worse so I panicked thinking I was probably getting what Dave had last week even though we tried so hard with masks and quarantining. I had a total panic thinking about what the next few days would bring. I came home and Dave sent me straight to bed and didn't let me come out at all until the kids were in bed. I had a bit of a fever, lots of aches and a very sore throat and it all just sounded way too much like Dave's illness.

Overnight the sore throat got so much worse. I woke up achey and could hardly swallow. I took a peek at my throat in the mirror. Dafuq. I have strep throat! 100% strep throat... What the heeeccckkkk! Dave did not have strep throat. He did, however, happen to be given a prescription for antibiotics "just in case" from the doctor on Saturday. Some sort of weird blessing that was! Doctors usually won't give those antibiotics without a positive swab I thought. Dave didn't end up taking them, so we have a full prescription of strep meds just in time for me to very randomly get strep throat!

I realized later it wasn't actually that random. Apparently the rash Emilia had was actually a strep A rash, which can infect people with either the same sort of rash or strep throat if they come into contact with it. The doctor said the rash could be contagious, but didn't mention that part. We were careful with washing hands, not sharing drinks, etc. but I was the one who was applying her cream and being closest to you, so I guess I just wasn't careful enough and ended up getting strep throat from a rash on Emilia's face. Sheesh.

Bad news. Today sucked and my throat hurts.
Good news. I have antibiotics and will start feeling a lot better by tomorrow!

How I spent most of my day

One more thing! Check out Dave's updated portfolio for his lifestyle videos.
There may just be a family you know and love on there ;)
